We need to redefine the word ‘marketing’. Market is no longer a common place for buyers and sellers. In fact, in the present context of marketing, the buyers and sellers would not have even seen each other. Many would not have even seen the product, but the transaction goes on. Sale and purchase do take place, and the turnover is in terms of millions of dollars. All this has been the result of internet marketing.

With the advent of computers and the network, the phase of communication has improved drastically. Now the messages reach any remote corner of the globe in just a few seconds, in the form of internet connections. This internet marketing or online business is becoming more and more popular. There are blogs put on the web. People search for their required articles on the web, they purchase on the web and the transaction takes place. You can accomplish all the deals at the click of the mouse. Recent studies have shown that sales through internet marketing have increased by nearly about 31%. That shows the phenomenal response this form of marketing is receiving from the prospective buyers.

Blogs:
When we write blogs, the web hosts it either through search engine, email or viral marketing or even blog marketing. Whatever be the form followed, the ultimate aim is to market the product. Use of proper key words and the proper density of key words make the blog more interesting. In fact, this basic aspect makes the web more popular. The agency entrusted with the SEO should have enough expertise in such marketing. Of course, internet marketing is the cheapest way to take the product to the prospective buyer. However, to be effective, it has to receive the highest PPC (Pay per click). The blog should be such that it is one within first 20, so that it receives the due attention of prospective buyers. All this depends on the proper links to the blogs, which the agency develops effectively.

Social marketing:
This is the most effective form of internet marketing. The prospective buyers personally advertise for product to their friends or relatives. In fact, one advantage of social marketing is that the message about the product reaches to like-minded buyers. By this mechanism, the product gets due recognition. Face book, twitter are some of the most preferred form of social marketing. There are agencies that are specialized in social marketing.
Be it internet marketing or social marketing, what finally matters is the effectiveness of the SEO.

In the wake of Citizens United, preserving an open, neutral Internet may be our best hope for counterbalancing the deluge of corporate money that will now influence elections. With low barriers to entry, an open Internet can enable all sorts of political speech — it can provide room for lively political debate, help individuals connect and mobilize around causes, and allow small donors to aggregate their funds.

But phone and cable companies, emboldened by the blowout corporate victory in the Citizens United Supreme Court decision, are saying that the landmark case confirms that Net Neutrality — the rule that says phone and cable companies can't block your e-mails or slow down your favorite Websites — violates their First Amendment rights. In the words of Michael Wendy, formerly with the US Telecom Association, the Supreme Court's ruling should “put the FCC on guard.”

This absurd argument was bogus from the get-go, and Citizens United hasn't improved its merit. Understanding why Net Neutrality rules don't threaten the First Amendment rights of corporations is pretty simple: when I send an e-mail to a colleague expressing concerns about the proposed merger between Comcast and NBC, it's pretty clear that I'm the one speaking, even if I use Comcast's Internet access service to send the e-mail. Similarly, when I read the New York Times online using Comcast's Internet access service, it's equally clear that the author or speaker is the writer who produced the story or the New York Times itself, not Comcast.

The First Amendment is about speech or “expressive conduct.” Speech is composing an e-mail or writing an article. It is burning a draft card. It is not routing digital data that contain the communications of others. The postman doesn't speak when he delivers our mail. The newspaper deliverer doesn't speak when he delivers the paper. Nothing in law or logic suggests that our Internet access service providers speak when they deliver our bits — but that's the case they're making.

The cable and phone companies would have us believe that if the government enforces Net Neutrality, it forces the companies to adopt the views expressed in those e-mails. Net Neutrality does not force an operator to endorse particular applications, content, or viewpoints. No one would mistake my views for Comcast's, and it's obvious that the cable and phone companies don't retain editorial control over the content they transmit.

These examples lay bare how vastly the phone and cable companies overreach when they compare the facts presented by Citizens United with the regulatory scenarios proposed in Net Neutrality debates. In Citizens United, the Supreme Court said that limiting the amount of money a person can spend on political communication advocating views or supporting candidates in the few days prior to an election implicates our core First Amendment values.

While it is true that Citizens United disastrously expanded the First Amendment protections extended to corporations when they engage in speech or expressive conduct, nothing in the decision transforms laws that guide the transmission of data containing content created by another individual or entity, political or otherwise. Recognizing that the postman has First Amendment rights of his own doesn't mean that he can refuse to deliver your mail if he opens a letter and disagrees with the sender.

The cable and phone companies' insinuation that the First Amendment accords them the right to block or otherwise limit the political activity of their subscribers is an act of sheer hubris. The fact that they now enjoy the unfettered right to donate to the causes of their choice ought to be enough.

Using Citizens United to further extend corporate influence over our core communications is legally unsupported and unwise on many levels. We should reject these contentions for what they are — red herrings designed to obscure the real First Amendment values that Net Neutrality protects: diversity of thought, civic participation, and democratic engagement online and beyond.

Janice Min's Internet Future

Former Star editor Bonnie Fuller left the celeb magazine world to start a wondrous vapid celeb website. Now, WWD says former Us Weekly editor Janice Min is working on a website of her own. Can she avoid post-magazine online doom?

When Min left Us Weekly last summer, we wondered if she would (as speculated) follow the celeb mag-to-website path of terror. Celeb mag jobs were, until very recently, cushy and incredibly well-paid. Whereas striking out online is fraught with uncertainty and possibly very, very low pay.

WWD cites unnamed sources today who say Min is “interested in launching a celebrity mom-based site.” And, more interestingly, that she “has been making the rounds with Ben Silverman pitching Web site concepts to online media, such as AOL.”

But we hear that's not quite right. NBC washout Silverman is now putting together websites for Barry Diller, and that it would make little sense for Diller's IAC to be trying to “pitch” any site to AOL on a straight for-sale basis. (Although AOL's “Women” section is not a bastion of editorial brilliance, presently! And AOL's CEO recently brought in a former Google exec to help the company “refashion itself as a top creator of news, entertainment and other digital content.” So they're definitely in the market for…something.) Also, Barry Diller himself doesn't mind sinking a ton of money into websites by brand-name former mag editors, as The Daily Beast goes to show. And while Silverman didn't succeed at NBC, he still has good relationships with advertisers—as does Min, presumably, who left Us Weekly by choice, more or less.

So, will Janice Min be the next Bonnie Fuller or the next Tina Brown? A bit of time and a shitload of money will tell.

We thought it was crazy enough when an RIAA-organized lobbying group called radio “a form of piracy” because it didn't pay musicians to promote their songs. But it appears that Rep. John Conyers, one of the biggest backers of forcing radio stations to pay an additional tax to help promote music, has taken it a step further. Via Copycense we learn that at an event put on by recording industry lobbyists, Conyers decided to compare the lack of a performance right mandatory fee for radio stations to slavery and indentured servitude. Seriously:

“In 1865, slavery was abolished by the 13th Amendment. No more free labor,” Conyers said. “It abolished at the same time involuntary servitude. What does that have to do with what we're here for today? Well, when you tell somebody that you're benefiting from their work product but there's no avenue for compensation, it kind of harkens back to that great problem.”

What an incredibly shameful thing to say. Beyond making the absolutely bizarre and ridiculous connection between the failure of one giant industry to force another big industry to hand over a chunk of cash (most of which never will be seen by any musicians), it ignores basic economics. Historically, the money has flowed the other way. For decades, record labels and promoters have used forms of payola to pay radio stations to play certain musicians. Why? Because they clearly knew that they got a ton of value out of those songs being promoted on the air. Songs on the radio are advertisements. What kind of industry gets Congress to force broadcasters to pay to run their advertisements — and then has the gall to have an elected official claim that not paying to play these ads are the equivalent of indentured servitude?

Of course, Conyers knows all about Payola. Back in 2002, he was the one who called for payola hearings on Capitol Hill. So how is it that he suddenly thinks that money not going the other way is somehow “no avenue for compensation”? He's being blatantly intellectually dishonest here. Is it worth mentioning that in the last election the two largest contributors to his campaign were lawyers and the Music/Movie/TV industry?

The performance right tax is not about “indentured servitude.” It's not even about people benefiting from a product where “there's no avenue for compensation.” Quite the opposite. Getting your music on the radio is a huge challenge for most artists, and if you can get your music heard that way, it's still a huge boost to a musician's career. Does Conyers think that when there's a popular commercial on TV that people want to see that the makers of that commercial are “slaves” because they're not getting paid every time the commercial is played? It's yet another example of corrupt politicians in DC pushing legislation that helps one particular industry, and making up completely ridiculous arguments to support their position. This isn't about slavery or indentured servitude. It's about Congress granting a huge mandatory windfall to the record labels (at the expense of radio stations) because those labels are unwilling to actually do something to properly capitalize on free promotion from the radio stations.

Since the release of Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth, ecological messages have been pushed left and right on the silver screen. From eco-documentaries to end of the world disaster movies starring blue avatars, it appears that Mother Nature is taking the spotlight. But it also looks like a new generation of filmmakers are increasingly aware of a certain environmental issue — the impact of making movies.

Filmmakers are the first to acknowledge that it takes a whole slew of resources to make a production. This includes time, labor, money, fuel, food, energy and materials, so depending on the project, it can have a significant impact on the environment. In its most recent member bulletin, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) focused on the efforts of union members on the ground, wardrobe heads who have stopped using disposable dry cleaning bags, sound designers who recharge all of their microphone batteries and film crews who have embraced car-pooling, mass transit, and composting. Whether you are making an animated short or a blockbuster film, each project has its own individual environmental concerns. When shooting on location, productions will run generators for 12-14 hours straight, use an average of 300-500 water bottles for a crew of 80, and depending on the story can use countless amounts of resources for set construction, costumes and props. The resources used are not limited to movies, but can be applied to television shows, commercials, concerts, theatrical shows and Vegas debuts.

The major motion picture studios, too, have stepped up and created departments specifically focused on environmental impacts. While some have retrofitted their studios with solar panels, other studios are generating active educational campaigns. In fact, Walt Disney Motion Pictures Production has created a new position — environmental steward — that is specifically assigned to coordinate and implement environmental practice on every live-action film. So whether it's a new solar base camp or composting stations, Warner Bros.'s Environmental website says it right, “It takes creativity to entertain the world while conserving resources on our planet.”

One woman who got creative was Film Biz Recycling's Eva Radke. She began her career as a film art department coordinator in New York and after watching the waste generated during production she decided to start her own recycling business for the movie industry. Film Biz Recycling is a non-profit organization that helps productions donate their leftover materials in exchange for a tax write-off. The donated set dressings and props then become part of the inventory for others to rent. Her hybrid model of a recycling business and a prop house lets producers save money while saving the planet. And better yet, it is open to the public for rentals and purchases, so it's a win-win for everyone.

However, while everyone is excited about going green, sometimes the reality of a face-paced set can be short of the green dream. “There are a lot of materials in the costume department that are recyclable, but don't get recycled,” says costume designer Kresta Lins. “People hear that you are trying to waste less and they are all for it, but it is another step to actually do something about it.” But Lins is doing something about it. She created a visual campaign titled “The Sustainable Sirens” which consists of six characters made from the waste produced in various areas of the film industry, in order to teach costume designers and other crew members about the environmental impact that each of their departments has. From e-waste to composting, her work will help inform people of the actions they can take towards sustainability.

One filmmaker in particular, Miranda Bailey, has made greening the film industry the focus of her new documentary, Greenlit, which is premiering at SXSW this year – http://www.greenlit.org/. Greenlit follows the environmental impact of an independent film production and what it takes for it to be “green” and that perhaps it's not always as easy as we think. The difficulty with greening anything is that it is about change and people seldom want to change. Specifically, in independent film production, there is limited long-term planning. The project is not worked on until the money is approved, and then once approved, it is done as quickly as possible in order to save money. Sustainability is all about making choices, planning ahead, and developing practices that can be repeatedly applied and learned upon. “Being a filmmaker I was extremely curious about what impact the business has on the environment. Being green is something I didn't really understand, but now know all about after making Greenlit. Making a film environmentally friendly is complicated, but hopefully Greenlit will help raise awareness of the wastefulness that occurs and it will motivate people to be a little more 'green' when making their next movie” said director Miranda Bailey.

Making a film environmentally friendly is complicated, but hopefully Greenlit will help raise awareness of the wastefulness that occurs and it will motivate people to be a little more 'green' when making their next movie” said director Miranda Bailey.

Contact Your Senators NOW and Urge them To Vote No on Radical Craig Becker’s Nomination.

The Senate is scheduled to vote TODAY on the nomination of radical union apologist Craig Beck to the National Labor Relations Board.

It’s vital you contact your Senators IMMEDIATELY to help derail this out of control union lackey from being on this board.

You can find your Senators direct lines through this link.

One recent piece of evidence to add to the growing Becker rap sheet:

In last week’s U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee hearing, Obama nominee Craig Becker clearly tried to put distance between himself and his former client ACORN:

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) asked Becker this question:

“Do you perform work for and provide advice to ACORN or ACORN-affiliated groups while employed by your current employers or on a volunteer basis?”

Becker responded, “Senator McCain, I have never done so.” (Emphasis added)

Becker statement to the Senate Committee is that he has never provided legal advice to ACORN or to an ACORN affiliate while employed by SEIU; but, an ACORN produced report directly conflicts Becker’s statement.

ACORN’s “2006 YEAR ENDING – YEAR BEGINNING REPORTS” publication (a compilation of reports filed by ACORN organizations) declared that Becker while serving as SEIU Counsel was also a counsel for ACORN:

“Legal Representation – In the past we have used Steve Bachmann and the CCI legal team; SEIU counsel, Craig Becker; Art Martin in Southern Illinois…” (Emphasis added)

In addition as the National Right To Work Committee’s report on Becker noted, ACORN’s Founder Wade Rathke produced some interesting commentary about Becker that contradicts his statement as well:

“Here’s a big win no matter how you shake and bake it: Craig Becker being nominated for a seat on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB)! … having crossed paths with Craig for more than 20 years, finally we have a situation where a brilliant, effective, and pro-worker/pro-union lawyer will be on the NLRB. …

“I can remember Keith Kelleher negotiating the subsidy for SEIU Local 880 in Chicago and always making sure that there was the money for the organizers, but that SEIU was also still willing to allow access to Craig .”

Rathke even credits Becker with the massive forced unionization of home health care workers.

“For my money Craig’s signal contribution has been his work in crafting and executing the legal strategies …leading to the membership of perhaps a half-million such workers in unions like SEIU, AFSCME, CWA, and the AFT.

“Craig was the key lawyer from the beginning in the early 1980’s who was able to piece together the arguments and representation that allowed those of us involved in trying to organize home health care workers in Illinois, Massachusetts, …His role was often behind the scenes devising the strategy with the organizer and lawyers, writing the briefs for others to file, and putting all of the pieces together, but he was the go-to-guy on all of this.” (Emphasis added)

Becker Sought International Jurisdiction Over NLRB

Becker has appealed to international organizations to apply pressure to the NLRB arguing that the NLRB should follow “mainstream international laws” rather than U.S. laws.

In 2006, Becker as AFL-CIO Associate Counsel spearheaded an AFL-CIO complaint to the United Donations against the NLRB ruling that nurse shift supervisors are indeed supervisors. The AFL-CIO appeal to an international body beyond the sovereign government of the United States and the NLRB. This is the very same NLRB where Becker now wants to sit as a member.

“‘This will demonstrate how far outside the mainstream of accepted international law the U.S. is moving,’ said Craig Becker, a legal counsel to the AFL-CIO.” (Emphasis added)

Take Action

Becker’s ACORN associations and his deference to international laws are only a fraction of Becker’s whole public record that calls his nomination into question and the need for you to act now to stop his confirmation by your U.S. Senators.

Here are some additional reasons that you might mention to your U.S. Senators when you call or e-mail them:

Craig Becker wrote that Secret ballot “elections are profoundly undemocratic.”

He believes that a worker’s choice should be between which unions workers should be forced to join; he does not believe a worker should have the choice not to join to a union.

Becker argued that just as U.S. citizens cannot opt against having a congressman, workers should not be able to choose against having a union as their monopoly-bargaining agent. “‘Employees’ only choice,” explained Mr. Becker, “should be over which set of union officials get ‘exclusive’ power to negotiate their wages, benefits, and work rules.”

In addition, Becker through his writings has attacked the members of The National Right To Work, and will be incapable of fairly judging any cases that the National Right To Work Legal Defense Foundation brings before the NLRB.

Becker does not express a belief in individual rights of workers to freely choose to join or not to join a union. He supports the idea that workers should be forced into collectives like unions that dominate and control individual working conditions. Becker’s beliefs are the antithesis of American democracy and liberty, and his beliefs will have disastrous results if implemented by the NLRB.

It’s vital you help defeat this nomination

If you missed the first parts of this story, check them out here and here.

In Part 2 of our story of saving 100% down for a home, I left you hanging after my husband, Jesse, had unexpectedly lost his job soon after graduating from law school.

To say this job loss came as a shock would be an understatement. In all honesty, it was devastating.

We had worked and scrimped and scraped our way through law school. We’d made it through without any debt–by the grace of God. And Jesse had landed a good job.

We’d moved to Kansas City for this job and we expected it’d be one he’d be in for at least a few years. We were excited to get started saving and making traction on our financial goals after years of just barely squeaking by.

Then, without warning, we were left without our primary income source–in a new city with little support, few friends, and even fewer business contacts.

At first, we were pretty confident finding a new job wouldn’t be too hard. After all, we were in a big city and Jesse had his law license. How hard could it really be to find something which would pay the bills?

Well, apparently it was a whole lot harder than we’d initially envisioned. The days turned into weeks and the weeks turned into months.

We applied for just about every job under the sun we could come up with that would be a possibility. We prayed harder than we’d ever prayed before. We contacted anyone and everyone who might have a possible job lead. We followed up with every application and did our best to leave no stone unturned.

And yet, no one was even calling to offer Jesse an interview, let alone a job.

I wish I could say that I kept a cheerful attitude through all of this. On the contrary, I woke up every morning with a sick feeling in my stomach wondering how much longer things would go on like this. And I’m very ashamed to admit it, but I often found myself angry at my husband.

I felt alone, scared, and stressed, and I took out my frustrations on my husband–which was the last thing he needed at one of the lowest points in his life. Our marriage started feeling the toll and during those months of unemployment, there were times when it was only hanging on by a thread.

[Just a short side note: A few months after all of this took place, God really convicted me of how wrong my attitudes were during this whole experience and I went and humbly asked for my husband's forgiveness--which he graciously gave to me, even though I didn't deserve it. I'm thrilled to report that our marriage is much stronger today as a result of all of these trials and I believe beyond any shadow of a doubt that I am married to the most wonderful man in the whole wide world! He has stuck by me through thick and thin and loved me no matter what. I'm so blessed to be Jesse's wife!]

Gratefully, we didn’t have any debt and we were still living on a strict budget, so the job loss didn’t plunge us into complete financial ruin. I can’t even fathom what it would have been like had we piled up a bunch of debt in law school or followed the advice given by many after law school to go buy a house and live extravagantly now that my husband was officially a lawyer.

While our marriage was in bad shape, we did make one good decision and that was to be as creative and resourceful as we could in order to avoid dipping into our Emergency Fund unless we absolutely had to.

At this point, I had an online bookstore and a small personal blog which I’d slowly been growing. I had recently written a course on Supermarket Savings and we decided to experiment and run a big blow-out sale. We set up an affiliate program for the sale and notified as many of our online friends and companies about the sale.

By God’s grace, the three-day sale on our ebook package earned enough money for us to live on for a few months. We could hardly believe it! That was a huge bright spot in the midst of tremendous discouragement.

We started to really think outside the box when it came to our income: Jesse took on some contract jobs, we got a newspaper route, and I continued to bring in some supplementary income through the online bookstore.

It was also during this time that the idea for MoneySavingMom.com was born. There weren’t any blogs listing weekly deal match-ups for drug stores at that point and many people who had purchased my Supermarket Savings ecourse were writing and asking for more help and counsel.

I’d learned a lot about blogging and monetizing a blog over the past few years and I figured starting a frugal, money-saving blog might be a great opportunity to test some of those ideas out. Jesse was excited about the idea, so we brain-stormed a name and set up the site.

At that point, I was hoping the site would provide a place for me to practically help people learn to live on less by sharing things which had allowed our family to stay out of debt and live on a beans and rice budget. Little could we have dreamed that MoneySavingMom.com would someday soon be earning a full-time income and help us be able to save to pay cash for a home!

Unbeknownst to us, while it seemed like we were getting nowhere in the job search, God was doing some pretty amazing things behind-the-scenes to lay things out for our lives to be turned upside-down–in a very wonderful way!

…to be continued

Ron Sampson – BWUHHH? I'm really trying here, but the logic behind your comment is just too far beyond my grasp. Personally I think Murdoch is about the Benjamins, no matter who he has to pander to in order to get them (and more power to him for doing it – free country yay). A few years ago he noticed a dearth of conservative-biased TV media and so he swooped in and made quite the pretty penny from it. His only mistake was calling it "Fair and balanced" as far as I'm concerned. Based off of my observations, if he felt he could create a Current-like network that was as profitable as the Fox brand I think he'd do it in a second…

Look at Family Guy – As soon as it became a big enough hit in [adult swim] reruns to justify new episodes, back it came. I don't think you can call that an "angry republican American" show… Though they did have Rush Limbaugh on a few times… Hmmm… CONSPIRACY!!! We all know why Lando got his job at the Bespin Mining Colony!!

But seriously, political ranting really doesn't have anything to do with this. I hope CoCo finds a new late night home VERY soon and hopefully he'll figure out a way to bring Triumph and everyone's favorite self-pleasuring bear along for the ride (that's the real tragedy of this agreement between him and NBC – All of his intellectual property from the last 17 or so years is technically theirs). I for one am one of the rising 18-35 male demographic who will not be watching Leno's show (not that I watched it regularly at any point in the last 10 years) and I suspect that he will not regain his Number 1 late-night status for a long time if ever. I did DVR CoCo EVERY night he was on and yes I did watch it live when possible as well. If pledging to watch it live will make a difference, I would gladly do so.

Obama NLRB Nominee Craig Becker’s Smoking Gun?

Ron Sampson – BWUHHH? I'm really trying here, but the logic behind your comment is just too far beyond my grasp.

Internet Brands has announced the acquisition of Australian online coupon site, Tjoos, bringing it into its stable of more than 100 websites.

Tjoos (pronounced “choose”) grew by 150 percent year on year to well over 1 million unique visitors in February 2010. This growth was driven by the site’s more than 500,000 coupons from more than 180,000 merchants.

Tjoos co-founder Bart Jellema was also recently named The Next Web Australia’s Startup Person of the Year.

Internet Brands (NASDAQ: INET) is an Internet media company that sees over 55 Million uniques/month from its websites that focus on specific vertical markets.

Internet Brands CEO, Bob Brisco, had this to say about the acquisition:

“This is a hot area, discount discovery, fueled by community participation, is growing very rapidly and will continue to do so. Consumers want deals, and coupons are a massive marketing channel for both small and large merchants.”

In the competitive world of online coupon sites, Tjoos attempted to differentiated itself by focusing on building relationships with merchants as well as the development of proprietary tools for automatically verifying the accuracy of coupon codes. The latter of these was part of a plan to create the most accurate coupon database on the net.

There’s no official update from Jellema (his twitter account “@tjoosdude” has actually been taken down and there’s nothing up on his @bartjellema account either ) but there’s no doubting this is great news for he and his partner Kim Chen (who’s @tjoosgirl twitter account is actually still up) who have worked tirelessly on both the project and the building the Australian tech startup scene over the past few years.

Knowing both of them, there’s no doubt that after some time spent on the The Startup Bus and a bit of R&R involving some scuba-diving and zoology, they’ll be back with another kick-ass project.

Great news.
